Access 2 Play, Inc. — Coach & Volunteer Code of Conduct
Effective 2026 · All Volunteers & Coaches Must Sign
Purpose: Access 2 Play, Inc. is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for every youth athlete we serve. This Code of Conduct establishes the standards of behavior expected of all coaches, mentors, and volunteers. Adherence to these standards is a condition of participation in any A2P program.
1. Youth Safety & Protection
- Never be alone with a minor in an unsupervised or private setting. Maintain open, observable environments at all times.
- Never engage in physical discipline, intimidation, threats, or verbal abuse of any kind toward a youth athlete.
- Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a minor immediately to the A2P Program Director and, where required by law, to the appropriate authorities.
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times. Personal relationships (social media, texting, calls) with athletes must go through parents or guardians.
- All volunteers working directly with minors are required to pass a background check before participation.
2. Inclusive & Respectful Conduct
- Treat every athlete, family member, volunteer, and staff member with dignity and respect regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic background.
- Use positive, constructive language at all times. Criticism must be directed at performance, never at the person.
- Do not tolerate bullying, hazing, harassment, or discriminatory behavior from athletes, other volunteers, or coaches.
- Model sportsmanship. Respect referees, opposing teams, and competition outcomes.
3. Professional Standards
- Arrive on time and prepared for every session, clinic, practice, or event you have committed to.
- Communicate cancellations or schedule changes to the A2P Program Director at least 48 hours in advance when possible.
- Do not coach or mentor while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any substance.
- Do not use A2P events, relationships, or athlete access for personal financial gain, solicitation, or promotion of outside businesses.
- Represent Access 2 Play professionally on and off the field, including on social media.
4. Social Media & Communications
- Do not post photos, videos, or identifying information of minors without written parental consent on file with A2P.
- Do not contact athletes directly via personal social media, email, or text. Use A2P-designated communication channels.
- Do not make public statements on behalf of Access 2 Play without prior authorization from organizational leadership.
5. Conflict of Interest & Confidentiality
- Disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationship with an athlete, family, or partner organization to A2P leadership prior to participation.
- Keep all athlete personal information, family financial data, and grant award details strictly confidential.
- Do not solicit donations from athletes or their families on A2P's behalf without explicit organizational authorization.
6. Health & Safety
- Follow all A2P safety protocols, venue rules, and emergency procedures.
- Do not continue a session if an athlete is injured — stop, assess, and contact emergency services or the athlete's guardian as appropriate.
- Do not require an athlete to train through pain, injury, or illness.
- Ensure adequate hydration, rest, and age-appropriate training loads at all times.
7. Violations & Enforcement
- Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in suspension, removal from A2P programs, or referral to law enforcement depending on severity.
- Report concerns about another volunteer or coach to the A2P Program Director at info@access2play.org.
- Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith is strictly prohibited and constitutes a separate violation.
