Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to making access2play.org usable by everyone — including people with disabilities. Current features, known limitations, and how to report barriers.
Our commitment: We believe access to information about our programs should be barrier-free for everyone. If you encounter an accessibility issue on our site, please tell us — we take every report seriously and will work to resolve it promptly.
Our Commitment
Access 2 Play, Inc. is committed to ensuring our website and all digital content we produce are accessible to the widest possible audience, including individuals with disabilities. This is not merely a legal obligation — it reflects our core mission of removing barriers to participation.
We understand that for some visitors, an inaccessible website means an inaccessible organization. A parent with a visual impairment should be able to read about our grant programs. A community member using a screen reader should be able to contact us. A prospective volunteer using keyboard navigation should be able to complete our application.
We are actively working toward full accessibility and welcome your help in identifying areas we can improve.
Standards We Target
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define how to make web content:
| Principle | What It Means for Our Site |
|---|---|
| Perceivable | Information and UI components must be presentable in ways users can perceive — including those who cannot see or hear |
| Operable | Users must be able to operate the interface — including those who cannot use a mouse |
| Understandable | Information and UI operation must be understandable — including for those with cognitive disabilities |
| Robust | Content must be interpreted reliably by assistive technologies, including screen readers |
WCAG 2.1 AA is the internationally recognized benchmark for web accessibility and aligns with requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act where applicable to nonprofits.
Current Accessibility Features
Structure & Navigation
- Semantic HTML5 with a logical, consistent heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3)
- Skip navigation link available to keyboard users to bypass repeated navigation
- All pages have unique, descriptive title elements
- Consistent navigation structure across all pages
- Breadcrumb-style page labels on legal and subpages
Visual Design
- Color contrast ratios designed to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA minimums (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Information is never conveyed by color alone — text labels accompany all color-coded elements
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- No content flashes more than three times per second
Images & Media
- All meaningful images include descriptive alt text
- Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes (alt="") so screen readers skip them
- No content relies solely on images of text
Forms
- All form inputs have visible, associated labels
- Required fields are clearly marked and programmatically identified
- Error messages are specific and describe what needs to be corrected
- Success confirmations are programmatically announced
Links & Buttons
- All links have descriptive text that makes sense out of context
- Links that open in a new tab are labeled to indicate this
- Interactive elements have visible focus indicators for keyboard navigation
Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms, menus) are reachable and operable via keyboard alone
- Focus order follows a logical reading sequence
- No keyboard traps — users can always navigate away from any component
Known Limitations
We are a small nonprofit with limited development resources. While we are committed to accessibility, we acknowledge the following current limitations:
| Area | Current Status | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| PDF documents (legal, application forms) | Our downloadable PDFs may not be fully screen reader compatible | High — working to remediate |
| Some legacy page sections | Older content blocks may have suboptimal heading structure | Medium — reviewing in 2026 |
| Third-party form embeds | Formspree and payment processor forms have their own accessibility that we partially control | Medium — pursuing alternatives |
| Mobile navigation | Complex navigation on very small screens may require improvement | Medium — reviewing in 2026 |
| Video content | If we publish video in the future, captions and transcripts will be included from launch | N/A — not yet published |
We are actively working to remediate these limitations. If any of the above significantly impacts your ability to access our programs, please contact us immediately at info@access2play.org — we will provide content or assistance in an alternative format.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
We test our website for compatibility with commonly used assistive technologies. Our target compatibility includes:
| Assistive Technology | Browser | Status |
|---|---|---|
| NVDA (screen reader) | Chrome / Firefox | Tested — compatible |
| VoiceOver (screen reader) | Safari on macOS/iOS | Tested — compatible |
| JAWS (screen reader) | Chrome / Edge | Partially tested |
| Keyboard-only navigation | All major browsers | Tested — compatible |
| High contrast mode | Windows High Contrast | Partially supported |
| Browser zoom (200%) | All major browsers | Tested — compatible |
We test on the latest stable versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If you experience issues with a specific assistive technology not listed above, please report it — we will investigate.
Alternative Access
If you cannot access any content or service on our website due to a disability or accessibility barrier, we will provide it to you in an alternative format. This includes:
- Grant applications and legal documents in plain-text or large-print format
- Form submission by email or phone if the web form is inaccessible
- Program information provided verbally by phone or via email
- Accessible versions of any downloadable documents upon request
We aim to respond to alternative access requests within 5 business days. For urgent matters (e.g., an open grant deadline), please indicate urgency in your request and we will prioritize accordingly.
Feedback & Reporting Accessibility Barriers
We rely on user feedback to identify and fix accessibility problems. If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our website, please tell us:
Send to info@access2play.org with the subject line "Accessibility Feedback."
Tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, what assistive technology you were using (if any), and what happened.
We will acknowledge your report within 5 business days and tell you what action we plan to take.
We will work to remediate confirmed accessibility barriers as quickly as our resources allow, prioritizing issues that prevent access to essential content.
We do not consider an accessibility barrier resolved until we have verified the fix with the person who reported it, or with a comparable accessibility test. If you report an issue and do not hear back within 5 business days, please follow up.
Third-Party Content
Our website includes content and features provided by third-party services (e.g., Formspree, Google Fonts, payment processors, social media platforms). We do not fully control the accessibility of these third-party components.
Where third-party services have known accessibility limitations that affect the use of our programs, we will:
- Provide an alternative access pathway (see Section 6)
- Pursue more accessible alternatives as part of our ongoing improvement efforts
- Disclose known limitations in Section 4 of this statement
We encourage third-party services integrated into our site to maintain WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and will factor accessibility into our vendor selection process.
Ongoing Improvement
Accessibility is a continuous process, not a one-time fix. A2P is committed to:
- Reviewing this Accessibility Statement at least annually and updating it to reflect current site status
- Including accessibility requirements in all new website development and content creation
- Training staff who create website content on accessibility best practices
- Conducting periodic accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing
- Consulting with individuals who use assistive technologies to validate our improvements
Our accessibility roadmap for 2026 includes:
- Remediating all PDF documents to meet WCAG 2.1 AA for screen reader compatibility
- Improving mobile navigation accessibility
- Adding audio description or transcripts for any video content published
- Conducting a full third-party accessibility audit of our grant application form
Legal Framework
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
While the ADA's application to nonprofit websites continues to evolve through court decisions, Access 2 Play is committed to maintaining accessible digital services as a matter of mission and good practice, independent of any specific legal mandate.
Section 504 & Section 508
To the extent Access 2 Play receives federal financial assistance, we comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. We voluntarily apply Section 508 standards as a benchmark for digital content where applicable.
